Chaired by James Ward, a Haseltine Lake Partner based in the Munich office, the seminars gave delegates the opportunity to explore the full range of options and opportunities for patent protection in Europe. The speakers included Haseltine Lake Partners, Frances Wilding and Tim Stebbing, and Robert Margue, an Associate at the firm.

The four Haseltine Lake representatives discussed recent and planned law changes – including the European Patent (“EP”) system, the main national patent systems and the planned Unitary Patent (“UP”) system - and worked with the delegates to evaluate different strategies and approaches for patenting in Europe.

James Ward comments, “We are proud to work very closely with many Japanese companies and our biennial seminars are an excellent way to keep our clients and contacts updated with the latest information and developments in European patent protection.

“The anticipated forthcoming changes to the European patent system will have a significant impact on businesses both in and out of Europe. As a result, we wanted to focus this year’s seminars on discussing the potential ramifications for Japanese companies filing for patents in Europe and how strategies can be maximised most effectively.”
