Haseltine Lake's Shaun revealed to the public!

Haseltine Lake is delighted to reveal its ewe-nique Shaun the Sheep sculpture, called Robo-Shaun, to the world as it takes up residence at The Royal Exchange, London.

On Saturday 28 March, 50 five-foot tall sculptures of Shaun the Sheep flocked to the streets of London for the Shaun in the City public art trail.

High-profile artists, designers and celebrities have been working hard designing and decorating the sculptures which can now be viewed at iconic landmarks, attractions and locations throughout the capital from next month, including Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square, Carnaby Street, St Paul’s Cathedral, The View from the Shard and The Tower of London.

Haseltine Lake’s Robo-Shaun has been designed by Bristol-based illustrator Tim Sutcliffe and has taken up residence at The Royal Exchange. The Shaun in the City trail will run across London until 25 May. This will be followed by a second trail across Bristol, featuring 70 different Shaun sculptures, from 6 July to 31 August.

Members of the public visiting Haseltine Lake’s robot Shaun are encouraged to share their Shaun the Sheep selfie with the firm on Twitter by tweeting the image alongside the hashtag #RoboShaun to the @HaseltineLake Twitter account.

Lesley Evans, Chief Executive at Haseltine Lake, comments, “We love the retro-futuristic look Tim Sutcliffe has given our Shaun sculpture and we are delighted that we can finally reveal him to the public. At Haseltine Lake our Patent and Trade Mark attorneys work hard to protect new innovations and inventions which is why the creatively technological look of Tim’s Robo-Shaun design particularly appeals to us. We’re wondering if we might recruit Robo-Shaun to join us as a  Patent Baa-torney?””

Tim Sutcliffe comments, “I actually came up with eight other Shaun designs before I settled on Robo-Shaun – it was really important to me to come up with something fun and quirky that the public could enjoy. In the end I took inspiration from the wind-up toys of the 60s and 70s to come up with the robotic design.

”It’s fantastic that Haseltine Lake are sponsoring my sculpture. Obviously as patent attorneys they are constantly dedicated to protecting new technologies, so my ‘high-tech’ Robo-Shaun really reflects what the firm work to achieve. I am delighted to be partnered with the firm as part of the Shaun in the City project and am looking forward to working with them to support this amazing cause during the trail.”

Following both trails, all 120 Shauns will be sold at a public auction in October. The money raised from sales of the Shaun in the City sculptures will go towards Wallace & Gromit Children’s Charity, which supports sick children in hospitals throughout the UK.

The Shaun in the City trail follows the success of the Gromit Unleashed trail across Bristol in 2013, featuring the classic Aardman Animations character, which raised over £2.3 million for Bristol Children’s Hospital.
