Goodbye PCC, hello 'Intellectual Property Enterprise Court'

03 十月 2013

The UK’s Patents County Court (PCC) has been renamed the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court (IPEC) with effect from 1 October 2013.

The IPEC will continue to function in substantially the same way as the PCC, hearing all types of intellectual property claims with damages capped at £500,000 and recoverable costs capped at £50,000. It retains the streamlined, frontloaded procedures of the PCC (with less disclosure, less witness evidence and trials which usually last no more than two days).

The number of claims heard in the court has increased markedly since it underwent significant change in 2010, and it is proving an increasingly popular forum for IP claimants to seek quick and effective justice with the added comfort of limited adverse cost exposure.
